We train peer mentors, faith leaders, and professionals to build conditions that counteract the environments from which trauma arises.
We provide individual spiritual direction and counseling to people who have experienced trauma, and their loved ones.
We identify resources to support healing.
We advocate for appropriate care and consideration for those who suffer.
We believe that human beings have the capacity to learn and to heal.
We believe that suffering can be the seed of compassion.
We believe that the suffering of one is the
suffering of all.
We believe that social trauma
responds to
social healing.
We believe we are responsible for one another.
We believe that what is broken
can be transformed

The New Community is a not-for-profit educational organization begun in 2008 to teach in areas facing significant challenges, and to train trainers to build communities.
Our founders are Rev. Sala Nolan-Gonzales, MDiv and Diana Gurley, PhD. They have trained and worked extensively in social justice, behavioral science, mental health, spirituality, and research.
We have taught in prisons and shelters, worked with immigrant groups, supported environmental safety, documented health needs on American Indian reservations, offered pastoral care to community groups traveling in Palestine and South Africa, and partnered with people who have experienced violence, abuse, and inequality.
New Community's work crosses many cultural boundaries and spiritual approaches, and draws from Buddhist, Christian, Sufi, Quaker, and indigenous traditions. Training also draws from established work in sociology, social psychology, behavioral medicine, and restorative justice.
We support and encourage all paths that lead to greater understanding and compassion.
We invite you to join with us in the collective work of recovery from trauma.
Your membership will engage you in a larger community of students and teachers who gather in various ways to learn from one another. You will receive a monthly e-journal with information, insights and alerts, and you will be invited to share ideas of your own.
With sponsorship, you will also support teaching for groups that are experiencing difficulty, and who often do not have the means to contribute financially to these efforts.
The New Community is a 501c3 educational organization.
Your sponsoring membership is deeply appreciated. We promise to use it well.
